Firefly's Rocket skis are a higher level kid's ski, but still light and accessible by kids who are still picking up the sport. The core material is a composite wood/fiberglass which is lighter and flexier than a a solid wood core, but more advanced than a foam or completely synthetic core. With a wider than average waist width, early rise and twin-tip design, these skis are going to be perfect for kids who like to play around everywhere (off trail, on trail, park, powder), and will help them gain confidence in a wide variety of ski conditions.
PU Wood Core:There are two types of cores usually: Composite and Wood. Composite is made from a durable polyurethane that is significantly lighter than wood and usually found on kids skis for that reason. Wood is the tried and true highest quality core providing long lasting snap and response from the. PU Wood Core is essentially a hybrid of both of these methods.
Cap Construction:The topsheet of this ski drapes over the edge to form a clean and rounded finish to the side of the ski. This style of construction adds some torsional rigidity, and helps reduce topsheet chipping when the skis hit each other.
Sintered Base:The material used for the base is harder, and therefore more durable than other options (Extruded). This material should be waxed regularly for best performance.
Textured Surface:Ideal for repelling wear and tear on the skis surface. Textured ski surfaces (aka snakeskin topsheet) are rough surfaces to the ski that hide or repel scratches keep your skis look new long after they are not. Originally designed for rental skis for obvious reasons, this surface is now available on a wide variety of retail skis as well since everyone likes their skis to look nice.
Tip Rocker:This refers to the early rising of the tip to get the ski on top of the soft snow, rather than pushing through it. When the skis are held with the bases together, it will look like the tips are bent, and spread away from eachother. Tip rocker also helps skiers pivot the skis, making tight trees remarkably easy, and gives the ski a surf-like feel.
Tail Rocker:Just like Tip rocker, but in the tail, this feature allows the tails of the skis to release easier from the turn to give the skier the ability to turn the skis quicker in tight spots. It also allows skiers to dump speed by forcing the tails out and sliding sideways. The effective edge is reduced because of the tail rocker, so the skis will also be easier to control when forced to ski on the groomed slopes.
